Community Children's Nursing Service

Description

Our service provides nursing care for children and young people aged 0 - 18yrs (19yrs if attending a special school) within community settings, such as domiciliary care, schools or clinics across Hull and East Riding.

We offer nursing assessments, development of nursing care plans and training and education for carers, education staff, parents, children and young people for children with complex health needs who have a clinical nursing need, such as oxygen, suction, enteral feeding, provision of wound management care and phlebotomy services.

Our service includes the provision of short breaks for children with complex health needs within Sunshine House. Extra time is given for children with complex needs/communication difficulties during consultations.

Registered service and regulatory body

Registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). Part of the City Health Care Partnership (CHCP) a community interest registered company.

Staff training and experience

Staff who provide care for children and young people with SEND are trained well including equality and diversity training which is mandatory for all staff employed by CHCP. The service employs a number of LD Registered Nurses, trained to provide nursing support to children and young people with Learning disabilities. The majority of nurses are Registered Sick Children's Nurses and their training includes caring for children with SEND.

Children and families are encouraged to bring their communication aids to consultations, interpreters can be requested for families with English as a second language. Complex care nursing staff are employed who have experience caring for children with additional needs.
