Talent Match - Mencap

Description

We are an employment, education and training service encouraging active participation of Young People in their local communities, including access to leisure and meaningful activity. Our programme is developed by young people for young people and is targeted to assist those with learning disabilities who are struggling to find work, apprenticeships, traineeships or suitable further education courses.

Our aim is to challenge employers' views on a national scale towards learning disabilities and help them understand that those who do have a learning difficulty or disability are just as employable as everyone else. We are a free service and are funded by the Big Lottery fund and work alongside the Humber Learning Consortium (HLC) to deliver this programme and initially aim to help young adults (18 to 24 years old) to get to where they want to be. This could mean help with social interaction, breaking down the barriers to employment, help with functional skills (Maths, English, ICT) or helping to further the young person's education by finding courses that are suited to them, the service user.

There are only 18 applicants taken on at a time, on a first come, first served basis. The majority of our referrals through Jobcentre Plus and other agencies dealing with Learning Disability provision throughout East Yorkshire. Contact the team to self-refer and book a meeting to discuss the programme.
