Talent Match - Mencap
We are an employment, education and training service encouraging active participation of Young People in their local communities, including access to leisure and meaningful activity.

Our programme is developed by young people for young people and is targeted to assist those with learning disabilities who are struggling to find work, apprenticeships, traineeships or suitable further education courses.

Our aim is to challenge employers’ views on a national scale towards learning disabilities and help them understand that those who do have a learning difficulty or disability are just as employable as everyone else.

We are a free service and are funded by the Big Lottery fund and work alongside the Humber Learning Consortium (HLC) to deliver this programme and initially aim to help young adults (18 – 24 years old) to get to where they want to be. This could mean help with social interaction, breaking down the barriers to employment, help with functional skills (Maths, English, ICT) or helping to further the young person’s education by finding courses that are suited to them, the service user!

18-24 years

Access to this service
We tend to find the majority of our referrals through Jobcentre Plus and other agencies dealing with Learning Disability provision throughout East Yorkshire. If you would like to join by self referral all you need to do is contact Dougie Robertson on 07940 009929 and we will book you in for a meeting to discuss the programme and we could help you achieve.

It is a FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED basis and we only have space for 18 applicants on this programme.
Who this service is for
We cater for a wide variety of learning disabilities on this programme. Your child/young adult does not need a diagnosis; however it may help us deliver the programme more effectively if we know how to cater for them.
Parent and sibling involvement
Talent Match is primarily aimed at those with Learning Difficulties or Disabilities. However, if a Young Person would feel more comfortable with family members being present (carers, parents, brother/sister) they are more than welcome to come to meetings.
Parent carers are not required to stay for meetings. However, if the person attending feels more comfortable with them there they are more than welcome to stay.
Registered service and regulatory body
Our regulatory body is the CQC (Care Quality Commission).
Training acquired to support children and young people with SEND and their families
Care staff have fully qualified training experience and mentors/employment staff have basic First Aid and basic care qualifications.

If required we do have basic care training although some service users do tend to bring a social carer with them to meetings for moral support.
