We can provide:
  • Appropriate delivery systems for inhaled treatment
  • Symptom review

  • Peak flow and lung function monitoring

Hospital car parks have disabled parking bays, and Children’s outpatients is on ground floor level.
Access to this service
Families cannot self-refer
Referrals into the nurse led clinic come from:
  1. Following admission to hospital with a severe exacerbation of Asthma
  2. Referral through paediatric consultant
  3. Patient taking 4 and above asthma medications (National Asthma Guidelines)

How we communicate with children, young people with SEND and their families
There are play specialists within the unit who are able to use makiton
Play specialists are available on the wards and in the outpatient department.
Pictures, drawings and certain toys could be used in either area to support communication and understanding for children.

Nursing regulatory body is the Nursing and Midwifery Council
Medical staff are regulated by the General Medical Council
The Trust is regulated by the Care Quality Commission (Government led)
Training acquired to support children and young people with SEND and their families
The Clinical Specialist Nurse leading the clinic is a very experienced registered sick children’s nurse
